Lives On The Line

The Battle Doesn’t End When They Come Home

Kyle is an Afghanistan war veteran, suffering from chronic pain, who falls victim to a broken system while seeking treatment at the VA. At his breaking point, he meets a disillusioned VA employee who has seen what happens when the promises made to veterans are broken.

This short film is a work of fiction, but it is inspired by first-person accounts, news stories and a VA Inspector General Report that all depict a healthcare system that is seemingly broken. In a time when our country is divided more than ever, one thing we all tend to agree on is that if someone goes to war for their country that they should be taken care of when they come home. Unfortunately, it has become a standard that the care provided to veterans is second-rate and, in some cases, completely negligent. The team behind this short film believes that veterans deserve better. Ultimately, the filmmaker Steven Stein aims to entertain the audience, but he also hopes to enlighten and instill empathy for those willing to imagine what it is like to put your life on the line and come home to find that although you kept your promises that the country you served has let you down.
